Obituary

Frankfort – Sharon Ann (Martin) Fields, 71, went home to be with the lord October 23, 2020. She was born May 11, 1949 in Bangor, the daughter of Charles and Arlene (Kingsbury) Martin.

Sharon graduated from Hampden Academy and the Central Maine General Hospital school of Nursing RN program. Most of her career she worked in labor and delivery where Sharon assisted in the births of many souls. Before retiring, she worked in home health with a special little boy and became known as grandma Sharon.

She married the love of her life Wayne in 1970 and their beloved daughter Michelle was born in 1972. Soon after Michelle was born, they spent many happy times camping and fishing with family and friends. That tradition continued for many years with the addition of 3 much loved grandchildren.

Being with her grandchildren brought her the greatest happiness along with spending time with family and friends. Laughter at outings or playing games brought joy to her life, particularly the trivia night group.
She was predeceased by her father, Charles Martin and sister-in-law, Valerie Martin.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Wayne Fields; daughter, Michelle and fiancé, Keith Lebeau; grandchildren, Brayden Perkins, Kergan Perkins, and Delaney Perkins; great grandchild, Trenton Perkins; Mother, Arlene Martin; sisters, Rita Weaver, Marilyn Shaver and Stephen Newcomb, Janet Howington, and Kathy & Mark Flint; brother, Roger Martin; Mother-in-law, Ruth Fields, sister-in-Law, Kathleen & Lowell Evans; brothers-in-law, Ralph & Joette Fields, Bruce Fields, Shawn Fields and Joan Dotson, Scott & Denise Fields, and Barry & Suzanne Fields; Aunts, Joyce & Jim Richards, Jo-Ann & Ron Cook , Dorothy Kingsbury, and Evelyn Kingsbury; many cousins; several nieces and nephews.

Sharon and her family want to send a special thank you to the wonderful hospice team from Bangor Northern Lights and her niece Lisa who made her final time on earth as special as possible.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 10am to 12pm on Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Hampden Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Please be mindful of others by practicing social distancing, wearing a face covering, and be aware that the number of people allowed in the building at once is limited.

A memorial service will be held for close friends and family on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. The service will be followed by a procession to the Oak Hill Winterport Cemetery for a graveside service. A live stream of the service will begin at 11:00am for those wishing to attend the service remotely and may do so by visiting BrookingsSmith.com.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Edward Jones 132 Church St. Belfast, Maine 04915. Donations will be used for Sharon’s favorite charities and to establish a scholarship in Sharon’s memory for future nursing students.

Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com

Sharon was one of the most caring, competent, and cheerful nurses I have ever had the privilege of working with during my 35 years as a pediatrician at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Her natural grace, positivity, and warmth eased the birthing tension of countless new parents, let alone delivery room staff and doctors! She clearly made a difference in the lives of many parents and newborns and a great role model for caregivers.

Our deepest sympathy to Wayne, Michelle, Braydon, Kergan, Delaney, Mom Martin, and all. She was one of my dearest friends. Her courage through out life as she dealt with her adversities , her caring and compassion for others, along with her beautiful smile and laughter ; will always live on in her memory. I count it an honor and privilege to have called her FRIEND. She will truly be missed.
Love,
Wanda and Tony
