Obituary

HAMPDEN - Helen Krug (née Chundak), 92, passed away peacefully September 25, 2019 at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor with her family by her side. Helen was born in Jersey City, NJ on December 7, 1926, the daughter of John and Veronica (Kotynek) Chundak.

She was a 1944 graduate of Central High School in Paterson, NJ. In 1947, she married Frederick Krug. Together they operated a hardware store for many years. After retirement, Helen and her husband moved to Florida, where they enjoyed extensive travel in their airstream. After the death of her husband, Fred in 1984, she moved to Maine to be with her daughter and family. She became a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church and was an active volunteer with Cole Land Transportation Museum. Helen enjoyed bowling, baking, her years working as an LPN, and spending time with her granddaughters.

Surviving are a son, Donald Krug of Scottsbluff, NE; a daughter, Kathleen Kramer and her husband, Gregory of Hampden; two granddaughters, Meghan Scassero and her husband, Joshua, and Jennifer Kramer; as well as one great-grandson, Noah Scassero; and many nieces. Helen is also survived by her special lifelong friend, Esther Wartena of Atascadero, CA.

Her family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Maine Veterans’ Home, B unit for their compassionate and loving care of Helen.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10 am Friday, October 4, 2019 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the parish hall following the Mass. The Rite of Committal will be held at a later date.
