BANGOR - Leila C. Lowell, 98, passed away July 15, 2019, at a Bangor hospital. She was born January 27, 1921, in Sangerville, the daughter of George and Bertha (Johnson) Merrow.
Leila’s late husband, Charles, father of their three daughters, often described her as “good Leila.” He did so because, throughout her life, she was kind and giving, always offering a helping hand to whomever needed it. She had a sweet and gentle nature but was always able to take charge when the situation called for it. She was loved by all who knew her because she asked for nothing and gave much in return.
Though she suffered many losses in her long life, she never dwelled on it. Her favorite expression when asked about why she had lived such a long life was, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.”
Leila was predeceased by many including her first husband, Charles Connors, her second husband, Roger Lowell, and her daughter, Joyce Donovan.
She is survived by one brother, George Merrow of Patten; two daughters, Judith Round of Orono, and Martha Anderson and husband, Earl of Newport. In addition, she leaves behind 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two stepchildren, Roger Lowell and wife, Beverly of Kennebunk, and Brenda Towey and husband, Michael of Belfast; 4 step-grandchildren; and 9 step-great grandchildren.
A memorial reception to remember Leila’s life will be held 4-6 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2019, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
