Obituary for John D. Monohon

John D. Monohon, 94, died Nov. 21, 2018, at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born December 10, 1923, in Brooks, ME, the son of Lottie (McDevitt) Monohon Murch.

John graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1942. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943, and spent three years as head of an anti-aircraft gun crew attached to the U.S. Marines. He was engaged in three battles in the South Pacific Theater, the last being Iwo Jima. After his discharge from the Army, he attended Husson College. Upon graduation, he worked for Footman's Dairy for 37 years, retiring as vice president.

John was a member of Rising Virtue Lodge #10 A.F. & A.M of Bangor, Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies and past member of Royal Order of Jesters, Court No. 150. He joined Anah Shriners in 1965, and was Captain of the Motor Corps "Iron Camels" for five years. John was voted treasurer of Anah Shriners and was in that position for 12 years. He had been secretary and president of the Bangor-Brewer Shrine Club, had served as secretary-treasurer of Anah Association and secretary of the Trustees Committee. John was a member of the Bangor Noon Rotary Club and served as its secretary and president.

In addition to his mother, John was predeceased by a sister, Janet Watson. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Jack Williams, Chaplain of Beacon Hospice, officiating. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
