Grief and the Holidays -
For some people, thinking of the holidays rapidly approaching can elicit warm and happy feelings while they prepare for another season with family and friends. For people who have experienced the loss of a loved one, those happy memories can be dulled by the sadness and pain of facing those holidays without their loved one. While others are anticipating the joy, the grief stricken cannot wait for these holidays to be over. How do you face the holidays when you are dreading being without someone you held so close?
Grief and the holidays can help you organize your thoughts for the upcoming days. This booklet is designed to help the bereaved tp prepare themselves for the flood of emotions they will feel, as well as suggest activities that can honor the memory of the deceased and encourge the enjoyment and support of others. If you or someone you know might benefit from this booklet, please contact us at Brookings-Smith, (207) 942-8815, or by email, info@BrookingsSmith.com
Bereavement Support Groups provide a very good way for people to work through the grieving process. They provide people the opportunity, in a safe and supportive environment, to share their feeling and stories with others that are going, or have gone, through the loss of a loved one. Some groups are very general and deal with a wide range of loss. Other groups are more targeted to a specific group (i.e. the loss of a child). There are several organizations which offer these groups; from hospitals and hospices to visiting nurse associations. We provide information for some of these organizations under the Grief & Healing tab on our website.
We are proud of our people, facilities, reputation, flexibility, creativity and value. Brookings-Smith is a family owned-and operated funeral home that provides the greater Bangor area with complete mortuary services. Local facilities in Bangor, Brewer, and Orono are maintained for the convenience of the people in these communities.
Depending on the size of your family and circle of friends, someone close may be expected to die every ten years or so. This infrequency leaves most people unprepared for the myriad of details which must be attended to when this eventually occurs.
Fortunately, there is an immediate resource available to assist you in this time of need. It is the Brookings- Smith Life Tribute Center whose people are confronted with the event of death on a continuing basis, and are prepared to guide our clients through the intricate details of preparation.
